Bayern Munich has announced the signature of striker Luis Díaz de Liverpool for fees in the region of 65 million pounds sterling.

The Colombian international spent three and a half years in Anfield, helping the club with four major trophies, including the title of the Premier League from last season. He made 148 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions, scoring 41 goals and performing 23 assists.

But with Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz arriving on the Merseyside this summer, the boss Arne Slot decided to go free to move on and the South American was impatient to connect with the Bundesliga winners.

Diaz said: “I am very happy, it means a lot for me to be part of FC Bayern – it's one of the biggest clubs in the world. I want to help my new team with my way of playing football and my personality. My goal is to win all the possible titles – we will work as a team every day.”

Diaz to connect with Harry Kane and Michael Olise

Diaz will strengthen the Bayern attacker who includes Harry Kane, Kingsley Coman, Michael Olise, Serge Gnabry and the Jamal Musiala currently injured.

This is the third largest transfer in the history of Bayern, but the sports director Christoph Freund was delighted to have taken a player of the quality of Diaz.

“Luis is dangerous, a goalscorer and at the same time he works a lot for his team,” he said on the club's official website.

“It is fast, a versatile footballer and brings an intense style of play. In addition, he has already acquired a lot of experience at the highest level with Liverpool and the Colombian national team. Luis Díaz represents a total package that our fans will love.”
