The co-owner of Birmingham City, Tom Brady, openly questioned the commitment of the former manager Wayne Rooney and labeled certain players of the 2023-24 team as “lazy and authorized” in a new documentary.

The legend of the NFL, which became a branch of the club in August 2023 after Knighthead Capital Management and Tom Wagner, made the comments in an Amazon Prime series published on Friday, which traces the immediate return of Birmingham to the championship.

“I am a little worried about our head coach [Rooney’s] Work ethics, “said Brady in the film.” I mean, I don't know, I don't have excellent instincts on this subject. “”

Rooney was hired two months after the club changed ownership, but only lasted 83 days of work when Birmingham was relegated to League one at the end of this season.

Speaking after the drop, Brady added: “Well, we have already changed the coach, so they are really the players because the trainer is not going there and did not put the ball in order.

“They were lazy, they were entitled and when you are lazy and straight, you are not very lucky to succeed.

“We have to change all the people associated with the loss, so I think this summer, there will be a lot of missing people.”

After relegation, Birmingham spent heavily – beat the Ligue 1 transfer record – and stormed the promotion during the first attempt, collecting a record for the English football league 111 points.

Their preparations for life in the championship have already seen six permanent signatures, including the former Premier League champion Demai Gray and striker Kyogo Furuhashi, who joined Rennes for 9 million euros (10 million dollars).

Birmingham opens the 2025-2026 season in St Andrew's against Ipswich Town on August 8.
