Manchester City concluded a settlement with the Premier League following a legal challenge mounted by the club on the new rules surrounding the sponsorship agreements.

A majority of Premier League clubs voted in November from last year Approve the changes in competition rules on the transactions of the associated parties (APTS)which have been put in place to prevent that clubs benefiting from commercial transactions with companies linked to their property considered as “fair market value”.

These changes came after a trial of the city in which the club said that the rules were “illegal”.

City challenged the modifications in February, but announced the end of the legal proceedings, accepting the rules of the APT is “valid and binding”.

A City declaration read: “The Premier League and the Manchester City FC concluded a regulation concerning the arbitration created by the club earlier this year concerning the associated parties transaction rules (APT) of the Premier League and, therefore, the parties agreed to terminate the procedure.

“These settlements put an end to the dispute between the parties concerning the rules of the APT. As part of the regulation, Manchester City accepts that the current Apt rules are valid and restrictive.

“It was agreed that neither the Premier League nor the club will comment on the issue.”
