Riccardo Calafiori from Arsenal revealed an unexpected football idol – and it was not who would have guessed.

In a recent exclusive interview with AGAINSTInternational in Italy spoke with everything about everything, of his role as an ambassador for the line of Adidas underwear, to whom he thinks he has the best hair at Arsenal (Noni Madueke, for the record).

But it was his football idol that really caught attention.

While most would assume that he looked up to legendary Italian defenders like Paolo Maldini or Alessandro Nesta, Calafiori revealed that his inspiration came from a more surprising source: Aleksandar Kolarov, the former Manchester City and as a Roma.

“When I was younger in Roma, I had the chance to train with the first team,” said Calafiori. “I learned directly from Aleksandar Kolarov, who played my position. He was someone I could look at every day – his technique, his mentality – and he gave me advice and small details that I still keep with me today. ”

Although Kolarov was his main influence, Calafiori mentioned the classic Italian defense icons. “Of course, defenders like Maldini, Nesta, Chiellini … These players are icons for me,” he added.

Elsewhere in the interview, the 23 -year -old has talked about life in Arsenal since his summer move of 42 million Bologna sterling pounds last summer.

“It's special,” he said. “Everyone is a good guy, we are friends, and I really feel comfortable here. Last season was not easy, but I came back this summer with a fire in me. I can't wait to start again. Playing in the Premier League is the dream of so many players, so now I just want to enjoy it and show what I can do regularly.”

Kolarov was a coherence pillar in Manchester City, helping the club win two Premier League titles. Now Calafiori undoubtedly hopes to reproduce the success of his idol at Arsenal.
