There are few mascots in world football as instantly recognizable as Mixed – The OGC Nice eagle, which reflects the crest of the club and makes a dramatic flight around the Riviera d'Allianz before kick -off.

The show was again in progress before Nice Europa League Clash with AS Roma Thursday, but what was supposed to be a demonstration of power and pride quickly turned into a much more comical scene.

While MEFI was heading for his coach, who was preparing to give him a treat, one of the sprinklers of land suddenly roaring in life. The birds and the coach were instantly impregnated, the jets pulling with such a force that the coach was left jostling to remove his soaked in-ear headphones.

During a fraction of a second, he seemed completely surprised, before embarking on a smile and giving the crowd a reassuring boost. Remarkably, MEFI herself seemed confusing by sudden soaking, continuing his routine with balance – although he is sure to assume that the eagle did not appreciate the erroneous shower.

The accident attracted a lot of laughter, but for the side of Franck Haise, the night fell down from there. Nice slipped to a 2-1 defeat against the Roma, watched by the owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe – whose group Ineos also has Manchester United.

Like Méfi's pre-match plan turned badly, he also made Nice, leaving the supporters of the house dipped with disappointment rather than celebration.
