How China Is Hoping to Attract Tech Talent
Lauren Goode: What is an example of that?
Louise Matsakis: So, there were some Chinese affairs that spread this conspiracy bies that Indians spread the visa to use the visa to use to immigrant to China and Masse.
Lauren Goode: Interesting. You have treated both of China's business and employers. Was this backstill surprising to you?
Zeyi Yang: I would say yes but also no. It is no is because I have never been that China has entered a lot of strange talents in the country, giving their kind of preference of preference to change others, it will cause some kind of krain from the population. That part I'm sure. The thing I feel that after China was trying to open at this point to open for the world, I would be a little more patience because China also wants to be an AI Linger on this age. And just now, the only model they can view is the United States, which is built on a ton of immigrant talent to build the AI industry. So, I might think that kind of policy orientation about the Xenophobic obstacles we see, but unfortunately that is the situation that is to have it is not possible.
Lauren Goode: So there are some cultural challenges for this. I mean what do you think some of the other challenges that will encounter China if it tries to scroll this K-Visa and scrolling outland and pull foreign talent?
Louise Matsakis: I mean, I think the most important thing is just that China, as Zeyi said, is absolutely not a country of immigrants. In 2020 only was made about 0.1% of the mainland of foreign country from foreigners, according to one estimate. And it is also worth noting that that estimate people includes from Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong. These are places that are very cultural similar to China. So, the number of people who come from Africa, as North America, or Europe, as Europe is just small compared to China's population. In the US, about 15% of the people who live in this country are immigrants. That's a huge difference. So, I think it can be difficult for new arrivals to apply. It's a tough language. There is a complete different ecosystem of apps and programs you have to use. I remember I went on a business trip on a business trip I had receiving the receipt for my expenses, and I was like, “can you have me a pdf of my receipt?” And the people at the hotel looked at me, as I was crazy. And they were like, “We'll just send it on Wechat.” And I was like, “Oh.” There are a lot of little things that are real otherwise, while, because the last few culture and American culture is about the USA, they are likely to use the same social media networks. And many of the business norms are right, right? Of course there is any cultural differences. And when those people get houses they can find an immigrant community where they are. They can find food that listens thinking of home. That is not necessarily the case in China. And so, I think that the idea of a city or screw is a true cosmopolitan, which is a mix of different cultures is something I think I think of now. I think it could happen, and I think it's probably that it will happen if the shifts of the global power tilt away from the USA. I think in this era we don't make a lot of good choices, and we don't really make a lot of friends around the world, it is most certainly, but China is just from a city like San Francisco.
