Progress through Hotel Z
This mission begins after completing the previous one, Escape the combat zone. You will find yourself at Hotel Z after passing through the combat zone and arriving at AZ's shelter. The first objective is to head to the roof of the hotel and then to the first floor to let things unfold.
Before giving you carte blanche, you will receive a MZ team jacket cosmetic. Team MZ is the new organization the protagonist is in, which aims to fight for maintaining peace in Lumiose City. Additionally, you will also be introduced to the ZA Royale app as well as new movement mechanics to help in battle.
The first allows entry into a nightly competition that sees players climb to the top of the ladder, starting from the bottom of Rank Z all the way up to Rank A, taking on increasingly powerful trainers across the city in combat zones. The latter, on the other hand, teaches you how to roll and sprint, which are invaluable tools for evading incoming attacks during a Pokémon battle.
Meet at the Pokémon Center

The next objective is to head towards the surroundings Pokémon Center. This returning medical facility has been a mainstay of the franchise since its inception in the 1990s, allowing players to completely heal their Pokémon for free. This time however, you have to go there to get the Pokédex.
This journal keeps track of all Pokémon encountered and captured and completionists have been fascinated with them in each entry and will be provided by Nurse Joy. The Pokemon Center is located opposite the Lumiose Station (or Lumiose Station), however, a pile of rocks blocks the path.
To get around this danger, head to the nearest roof and drop down from there to reach the entrance. Come inside and talk to Nurse Joy to unlock the Pokedex and use it. The next step is catching Pokémon in wild areas.

Help Mable in her research
You will now be tasked with catching five Pokémon for Mabel, one of the game's many major NPCs. This will bring the protagonist nearby Wild Area 1 catch and register five Pokémon in the Pokedex. Note that since the starter Pokémon obtained at the start in Pokemon Legends ZA is already listed in the Pokedex, you will only need to catch four additional Pokémon.
To catch a Pokémon, press ZL to target then press ZR to aim and throw a Pokeball. It is recommended first reduce enemy HP to zero to catch it; Unlike previous games, where defeated monsters fade away, this game has a small window where they are located stunned before disappearing.
Here are the Pokémon that can be caught in the Wild Area to progress toward this objective:
- Bunnelby
- Empennage
- Mareep
- Spewpa

Having a varied and balanced team goes a long way in any Pokémon game, so having these Pokémon on board is a good start. Mareep can evolve into Ampharos, which has a Mega evolution in the game which is Electric/Dragon type. Fletchling, meanwhile, can evolve into Talonflame, making it a solid beginner's choice, especially thanks to its dual-type Flying and Fire.
Leave Wild Zone 1 and head towards Mabel's Pokémon Research Lablocated just outside, to render the results. This will unlock additional requests from Mabel that will increase players' research level, which will reward players with items such as TM. Standing for Technical machineThese items contain moves that can be taught to Pokémon, and players will get Rock crash at the end of this section.
Note that not all creatures can learn all TMs, but luckily Captured Bunnelby can learn Rock Smash, so learn it before moving on. Once that's done, return to Hotel Z via Wild Area 1 and make sure to break the rocks to clear the path. This concludes the A New Life in Lumiose City story mission in Pokemon Legends ZA.
