Arsenal stunned Atletico Madrid with four goals in 13 second-half minutes as the Gunners maintained their 100% Champions League record with a 4-0 victory.

Just as they did against Atleti's rivals Real in April, the Gunners dismantled Diego Simeone's defense in a perfect evening that saw two more set-piece goals and a brace for Viktor Gyokeres to end his seven-game drought with Arsenal.

Arsenal dominated from start to finish and could have led at half-time. Eberechi Eze hit the bar and Declan Rice missed a good chance on the rebound, while Jan Oblak denied Bukayo Saka and Gyokeres either side of halftime with strong saves.

Atleti barely threatened until Julian Alvarez hit the bar just after half-time on England's return – but then came the Arsenal onslaught.

Just before the hour mark, Rice's wicked free-kick near the touchline found an unmarked Gabriel, whose thrown header gave Arsenal the lead. The Brazilian defender showed his talent in the other area a few seconds later by blocking Giuliano Simeone's shot.

Seven minutes later, it was two o'clock. Myles Lewis-Skelly made a breathtaking run to the edge of the box and teed up Gabriel Martinelli, who found the far corner expertly.

Six minutes later the score was 4-0 thanks to Gyokeres' double. The first was scrappy as Atleti looked ragged at the back, before finishing from close range after Gabriel nodded home a Rice corner.

It was a night where everything went well for Arsenal. The season is shaping up to be like that too.

What's next…

'Arsenal overtook Atleti – who looked lost'

Paul Merson from Sky Sports:

“No one beats Atletico Madrid 4-0.

“If that chance from Alvarez came a few minutes into the second half, who knows, it will be a different game.

“Arsenal kept going and ended up crushing them. Literally crushing them.

“I haven't seen an Atletico team look like that in a long time. They looked lost, literally lost. They looked beaten and were just well, well beaten.

“A massive statement. Big game this weekend now against Palace. It's a big football game. They're moving forward, but it's a great performance, especially in the Champions League.”
