Mercedes and McLaren reportedly the two teams in breach of F1's cost cap for 2024
Mercedes and McLaren have reportedly exceeded F1's cost cap for 2024. According to a report from Sky Sports, the two aforementioned teams were the only names in this category, with Red Bull's name not mentioned this time around.
In the middle of the ongoing Mexican GP, the FIA released a statement in which it was reported that more than one team had exceeded F1's cost cap last year. Although the governing body did not reveal the names of the teams, paddock charts suggest it was the team of Toto Wolff and Zak Brown that was under the radar.
The cost cap has been set in 2021 and according to the regulations, a team must not spend beyond the allocated budget. If this is the case, the team will receive significant sanctions from the governing body starting next year.
The original cost cap was $135 million, but over the years it has been adjusted to between $150 and $160 million per season. Costs related to development and performance are only accounted for in the settlement.
However, the three highest-paid executives and driver salaries are excluded from the calculation, as are marketing costs. That said, the FIA has yet to release the names of the teams that have exceeded the cost cap for 2024.
The FIA has released a statement on the administration of F1's cost cap
The FIA, F1's governing body, has released a statement on the administration of F1's cost cap. Sharing the update, here is what the apex body said:

“The FIA Cost Cap Administration is finalizing the review of 2024 submissions from teams and powertrain manufacturers, the results of which are expected to be communicated shortly.”
“The FIA does not comment on individual submissions made by specific teams and/or powertrain manufacturers and, in line with established practice, the results of the review will be made public once the evaluation of all submissions has been completed and finalized,” the statement added.
Lando Norris of McLaren won the Mexican GP, ahead of Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen. Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli and George Russell finished the race in P6 and P7 respectively.
