Sean Grayson Murder Trail Continues As Expert criticizes decision
Sonya Massey “alleged” killer, former Sangamon County Sheriff's Deputy Sean Grayson, is currently on trial, and Massey's family, along with many in the community and beyond, are praying for swift justice.
BOSSIP previously reported on the events of the trial that suggest Grayson is closer to guilt than going home for Thanksgiving based on testimony of his former partnerDawson Farley, and forensic pathologist Dr. Nathaniel Patterson.
According to The State Journal-RegisterJurors heard extensive testimony from a police expert Seth Stoughton, who shot Grayson a bit of bail by saying he could have “reasonably” felt threatened by Massey picking up the hot pot of water. Ultimately, however, Soughton answered “no” when asked if the fatal shooting was “acceptable, correct or appropriately tactical.”
The jury was shown the body camera footage of the incident, and Soughton commented on the “tactical” mistakes Grayson made when addressing Massey's concerns. He noted that, unlike his partner, Grayson actually closed the distance between himself and Massey instead of creating more distance, which would create a larger field of safety. In addition, Grayson immediately stepped into Farley's line of fire if there was a legitimate reason to discharge a firearm. This is bad police work before you even get to the decision to end Sonya Massey's life.
