Napoli equalize at the top of a tight Serie A

Napoli beat Roma 1-0 to move back level on points with AC Milan at the top of a very tight Serie A table.

David Neres' goal made the difference for the reigning champions against Roma, who are just a point behind fourth place.

Milan, who beat Lazio 1-0 on Saturday, are on 28 points, ahead of Napoli on goal difference, with Roma one point off fourth place, tied with third-placed Inter Milan.

The first half was a frantic end-to-end affair, and just when the hosts looked like they were taking control, a quick Napoli counter allowed Neres to score the first goal nine minutes before the break.

Roma huffed and puffed throughout the second half but never really troubled the Napoli goalkeeper and Antonio Conte's side cruised to back-to-back wins in a title race with little margin for error.

Lautaro Martinez scored two goals in the second half to Inter Milan who 2-0 at promoted Pisa.

Inter lost the derby to AC Milan last weekend and were beaten at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday, but bounced back with two late goals to win.

Lens rose to the top of the French championship thanks to a 2-1 victory in Angers, the following day Paris Saint-Germain hesitated.

Recalled French winger Florian Thauvin scored a goal in each half for Lens, who now sit a point ahead of PSG.

Marseille missed the chance to overtake PSG at the top after conceding a stoppage-time goal in a 2-2 home draw with Toulouse on Saturday.
