Sergio Reguilon has been linked with a possible move to Lionel Messi-led by Inter Miami. Amid these reports, his comments during a previous clash with the Argentine and Luis Suarez during a Clasico have resurfaced.

According to MarcaReguilon is expected to join Inter Miami this winter. The Herons won the Eastern Conference and MLS Cup this season and are looking to further strengthen their squad. This would see the Real Madrid Academy graduate plays with former Barcelona stars Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

Amidst this, his old comments during an El Clasico resurfaced. Reguilon participated in two El Clásicos during the 2018-19 season. During one of them, he got into a fight with Suarez, who appeared to make a move at him. The Spaniard told the Uruguayan striker:

“Don't touch me. Don't touch me. You're the ugly one, you're the ugly one.”

Lionel Messi tried to intervene in the fight, but Reguilon told him:

“What's wrong with you now? What do you want? … Puce”

Reguilon, in particular, lost both Clásicos. The Spanish left-back also faced Barcelona twice with Sevilla and Atletico Madrid, losing three times and drawing one.

Inter Miami co-owner on the future of Lionel Messi's teammate Luis Suarez

Luis Suarez's contract with Inter Miami expires at the end of this month and so there has been speculation over his future. Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets have already announced their retirement from football. It is unclear whether Suarez will follow suit or extend with Lionel Messi & Co.

Amid these speculations, Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas shared his thoughts on the situation. and said:

“Luis Suarez is a football legend, he is one of the best nine not only of this generation but of all time. Luis will have to make a decision at the end of the season, so tomorrow. As for the club, I want to say this because I have read a lot about Luis, I will say it in this context: if at the beginning of the year they gave us an article about a center forward who played more than 4000 minutes and scored more than 15/16 goals and 16/17 assists, everyone here would sign this paper to have a striker like that.

“Luis deserves to be able to make this decision to be able to leave through the front door and be celebrated as he should be by the club. And if he decides to stay at the club for another year, that would be great. I would like to see Suárez stay. Obviously the discussions would be about how Luis Suárez would stay, but obviously we would include Mascherano and Luis, but the decision is his,” he added.

Suarez joined the Lionel Messi-led side in January 2024 and has recorded 42 goals and 29 assists in 87 matches across all competitions for them.
