In a case that shook Hollywood and the world it was announced that the iconic director Rob Reiner, 78 and his talented photographer wife Michele Singer, 68, were found dead in their home in Los Angeles on December 14, 2025.
Emergency services were called to the couple's property in the 250 block of Chadbourne Avenue in Brentwood at 3:38 p.m. following reports of a medical incident and upon arrival, first responders discovered their bodies.

LAPD sources said ABC News that the police initially started with a death investigation which later developed into a murder case. A source told TMZ that Rob Reiner and his wife Michele were found with their throats slit in their Brentwood home.
Who found Rob Reiner's body?
The couple was found murdered in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, sources said earlier TMZ that the couple was discovered by their daughter Romy.
The source added that Romy told police that her “dangerous” brother Nick lived there and “may have been behind the murders and should be considered a suspect.”
Romy told police that Nick was not there when they arrived, however, he was eventually found and arrested at approximately 9:15 a.m. Sunday.
Why was Rob Reiner's son arrested?
People reported that sources said the couple's son was the perpetrator, and he has now been arrested on suspicion of murder. The LA Sheriff's Department confirmed Monday that the director's youngest son, Nickwas in jail and was being held on a $US4 million ($6m AUD) bail bond.
“We have our robbery-homicide division handling the investigation,” LA Police Chief Jim McDonnell told reporters. “They worked all night on this case and were able to arrest Nick Reiner, a suspect in this case. He was subsequently charged with murder.”
What happened the night before the murder?
It has now emerged that Rob and his son got into a “heated row” at Conan O'Brien's Christmas party on Saturday night.
Sources told People: “Nick scared everyone, acted crazy, kept asking people if they were famous.” Rob and Michele, then after said left the party after the argument, accordingly TMZ.
Who is Nick Reiner?
Nick is Rob and Michele's middle child and has often spoken about his long battle with drug addiction that began in his early teens and eventually left him homeless.
In a 2016 interview with people, Nick told the outlet that his stints in and out of rehab began around age 15, however, as his addiction worsened, he moved further away from home and spent large stretches of time homeless in other US states.
Nick told the outlet that the nights and sometimes weeks he spent sleeping outside later became the inspiration for the semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie, which he co-wrote.
“Well, I've been home for a really long time, and I've kind of acclimated to being in LA and being around my family,” Nick told the outlet at the time.
Over two marriages, Rob was the father of four children, including one adopted daughter from his first marriage to Penny Marshall and three children he shared with Michele.
What did Rob Reiner and Michele think of Nick?
In the months leading up to her murder, Michele and Rob were reportedly distraught over their son's spiraling mental illness and drug problems, with Michele telling friends, 'we've tried everything', according to TMZ.
In a 2015 interview with the LA Times, the parents expressed regret about how they dealt with Nick's addiction.
“When Nick would tell us it wasn't working for him, we wouldn't listen. We were desperate and because the people had diplomas on the wall, we listened to them like we should have listened to our son,” Rob said of his son.
Michele added: “'We were so influenced by these people. They would tell us that he is a liar, that he was trying to manipulate us. And we believed them.
Referring to how he was recovering from his drug addiction at the time, Nick added: “I got sick of it. I got sick of doing that shit. I come from a nice family. I shouldn't be out there on the streets and in homeless shelters doing all these f*****-up things.”
