Footage has surfaced of British boxer Anthony Joshua are rescued from the wreckage of a fatal car accident. The former heavyweight boxing champion, 36, suffered minor injuries in an accident in southwestern Nigeria that resulted in the death of two people, authorities confirmed CNNon Monday, December 29.

The incident happened along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at the Sagamu Interchange in Ogun State, a notoriously busy road often cited by local media as one of the most dangerous in the country. According to Nigeria's Federal Road Safety Corps, the Lexus SUV Joshua collided with a stationary truck during an overtaking maneuver and was suspected of exceeding the speed limit.
CNN reports that five adult men were in the car at the time of the accident. Two occupants were killed, while Joshua was rescued alive and treated for bruises. Two others were not injured.

“Anthony Joshua is fine and responding to treatment,” Ogun State Police Command spokesperson Babaseyi Boluwatife told the outlet, describing the boxer's injuries as non-life threatening.
Pictures and videos are circulating on social media showing extensive damage to the car and Joshua being helped out in pain.
BBC reports that a relative of the boxer spoke on condition of anonymity, saying that the news came as a “shock” for the family.
“We hope for his speedy recovery and also the people who died – I pray for the deceased to rest in peace,” the relative said, adding that Joshua had traveled from Lagos to the family home before the New Year.
