Manchester City v Newcastle: Comments, updates, goals and stats for the EFL Cup semi-final, second leg
Manchester City host Newcastle this evening. Follow the action at the Etihad with our live commentary…
Newcastle have everything to do tonight if they are to overturn a 2-0 first-leg deficit against Manchester City at the Etihad.
Goals from Antoine Semenyo and Rayan Cherki at St James' Park put City in the driving seat and they are favorites to finish the job and set up a EFL Cup final against Arsenal on March 22.
The visitors are injured in midfield but will hope to go one better than they did at Anfield on Saturday when they lost 4-1 to Liverpool.
“We absolutely have to have that belief,” said boss Eddie Howe. “The second goal in the first game was obviously a big disappointment for us, coming so late, but we still believe in it and we have to believe in it.
“I think we have the players who can go to any stadium in the world, play and score goals. I think collectively the spirit within the group is there.
“It's going to be an almighty challenge – there's no bigger challenge than Manchester City away from home. I think we say that every time we play them, but we believe in ourselves and will give it a go.”
