Michael van Gerwen made a major statement by winning the first night of the 2026 Darts Premier League with a 6-4 victory over Gian van Veen in the final.

In the all-Dutch final, it was Van Gerwen who looked the most comfortable and the night's victory proved to be a step too far for Van Veen on his first night.

By becoming world number 3 at the World Darts Championship, Van Veen took the Dutch number 1 title from Van Gerwen, with “The Green Machine” having to relinquish that title for the first time in over a decade.

But Van Gerwen made sure to remind everyone why he held the position for so long.

Remarkably, Van Gerwen didn't pick up a night victory in the 2025 Premier League, but made sure it was a perfect start to 2026 by promising to enjoy his darts.
