Tyson Fury will target his old rival Oleksandr Usyk after his comeback fight, promoter Frank Warren has said.

Fury will return to boxing to face Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11 in the United Kingdom.

After losing twice to Usyk in 2024, Fury announced his retirement early last year. He has now reversed that trend and harbors ambitions of becoming a three-time world champion.

Usyk vacated the WBO belt but still holds the WBC, IBF and WBA unified world heavyweight championships. Fury would welcome a trilogy fight with the Ukrainian.

Arslanbek Makhmudov admits he has “flaws” in his game but insists he has the belief of pulling off a major upset against Tyson Fury.

“He wants to be the best. That's how he's always been. He told me he wants to fight Usyk again,” Warren said. Sky Sports News.

“Tyson is a fighter. He loves it. He goes to the gym and when he trains seriously, he wants to see an end result and the end result for him is fighting.

“To me, he doesn't need to fight. He's cemented his legacy. But he keeps fighting and he's going to be a great addition to the heavyweight scene. He's a big personality. The crowds are coming for him, it's a big, big moment for his career.”

Warren added: “If he's going to come back, I would much rather he do it now than in four or five years, when his powers will probably be diminished by then.”

Now that Wardley has made the WBO heavyweight titlist, Fury will have other options than Usyk.

“It's a good fight. Fabio is boxing at the end of April, beginning of May. We'll announce who he fights,” Warren said.

“This heavyweight division is on fire. It's on fire, there's some big fights going on there. Moses [Itauma] came out on March 28 against American Jermaine Franklin. It's a very big fight. He's looking to be the next big thing. »

Sky Sports' Andy Scott explains why Tyson Fury is coming out of retirement and previews his opponent Arslanbek Makhmudov

Fury must first clear the significant 260-pound hurdle of his April opponent, Makhmudov. “It's a very difficult comeback fight for me. He came back immediately,” Warren reflected.

“He's been out of the ring, by the time this fight comes, it's been almost two years. He's made it very clear that this year he wants to fight and wants big fights. And he's a guy who's a big guy, has a good knockout ratio.

“It's a tough comeback fight for him. But if he comes out of it, we'll see where we go.”
