Manchester United turns to Torpey in order to produce Next Beckham or Charlton

Stephen Torpey was confirmed today as a new director of the Academy in Manchester United And responsible for continuing the beautiful club's tradition to produce young elite players.

Despite their status of one of the largest clubs in the world, United has always sought to feed the talents and have the proud record to have at least one academy player in each match team since October 1937.

During this period, Duncan Edwards, Bobby Charlton and David Beckham emerged from the ranks of young people.

Torpey to replace Cox at Manchester United

Torpey, who worked with Wilcox in Manchester City before moving to Brentford, will replace Nick Cox to United.

Wilcox said: “After a large recruitment process, we are delighted to have appointed Stephen at such an exciting time for our academy.

“Stephen's development of young people is exceptional; Throughout his career, he played an important role in the development of some of the country's most talented players.

“We will work in close collaboration to ensure that the Academy continues to promote the right environment to feed our young players individually while developing the best talents ready to excel in our first team.”

Palmer, Lewis and Mcatee benefit from Torpey's work

Torpey is recognized for having played an important role in Cole Palmer's careers, Rico Lewis and James McATEE in City after a player career without distinction which has seen it mainly for non-bound teams in the northwest.

He said: “I am really proud to have the opportunity to lead the Manchester United Academy. This is obviously the ideal moment to join as the club enters a fascinating new era; I can't wait to play my role in pursuing the incredible tradition of young people's development here.

“After spending time with the management team, it is clear that the Academy will always remain the key to the identity of Manchester United, our main objective being to produce players ready to support a first team capable of contesting for the biggest honors.”
