The long waiting of Newcastle United for domestic silverware finally ended last season when they raised the Carabao Cup – and the club marked the historic moment with a unique exposure which captured the spirit of their trip to glory.

'The road to Wembley'Organized at the Baltic Center for Contemporary Art in collaboration with Versus, offered supporters an immersive documentary story of the success of the Magpies Cup.

The exhibition presented more than 100 photographs of Club Photographers Serena Taylor, Harriet Massey and Michelle Mercer, each capturing intimate moments in the countryside. Visitors have also experienced cinematographic displays, facilities by Fan Group Wor Plags and the rare chance of standing next to the Carabao Cup trophy itself.

The launch event included a panel featuring the Conservatives Ewen Spencer and Jimmy Turrell, alongside Newcastle legend, Rob Lee, before the celebrations that spread in the evening with a DJ set.

The centerpiece of history, of course, was the 2-1 victory of Newcastle over Liverpool in the final – sealed by the decisive strike from Alexander Isak.

With the Swedish now not so subtly sucking on a move to Liverpool, nothing less, the exhibition may have accidentally doubled like his own farewell visit – a reminder that even if the heroes do not always remain, the memories (and the trophy) are there to stay.
