Do the EFL Cup winners qualify for Europe?
The winners of the EFL Cup receive a place in the dam phase of the UEFA conference unless they qualify by another path for European competition.
Newcastle was an example of the rule in action in 2024/25, qualifying rather for the Champions League thanks to its league post.
This meant that their place of course of the conference league had gone to the highest team that had not qualified for the European competition via its league post.
Do EFL Cup links go to additional time, reruns and penalties?
If they finish the level after 90 minutes, the EFL Cup links go directly to the penalties to the semi-final, which take place on two legs.
If the score is level after the second step, additional time and – if necessary – penalties are used to separate the teams.
The final is a unique match at the Wembley stadium, with additional time and penalties used if necessary.
Liverpool beat Chelsea 11-10 on penalties in the 2021/22 final and ahead of the same match after an additional time in 2023/24 Through the winner of Virgil Van Dijk in the 118th minute.
