Wayne Rooney “devastated” after the death of the Ricky Hatton boxing legend

Wayne Rooney shared an emotional tribute to her friend and boxing legend Ricky Hatton after the new tragic of his death at only 46 years old.

Hatton, a former world boxer champion, was found dead at his home in Manchester on September 14.

Although the cause of death was not revealed, the police confirmed that they were not treated as suspect.

Rooney, 39, had a close friendship with Hatton, after having worn his belts in the ring before Hatton's victory over Jose Luis Castillo in Las Vegas in 2007. Speaking of The Wayne Rooney ShowHe thought about the devastating loss.

“Ricky was such a good boy and a good person,” said Rooney. “He captured the heart of the nation. The support he had was incredible, and people followed him everywhere.”

Rooney also expressed his condolences to Hatton's family and friends, saying: “I want to make my condolences to his family and all those who were very close to him. It is far too early.”

The former Manchester United and England striker shared that he had received the news from Hatton's death shortly after playing in a Legends exhibition match for Manchester United in South Korea.

“He has not yet completely triggered,” added Rooney. “It's devastating. Tearing.”

Rooney was not the only footballer to pay tribute to Hatton, who, during his sparkling career in the ring, held global titles in two weight categories – light weight and Welter weight.

Jack Grealish, sharing his condolences on Instagram, described the legend of boxing as a “real legend” and an “absolute diamond” each time they met.

“A man of news so sad,” wrote Grenish. “My thoughts go to his family and friends. Rip Hitman.”

Roy Keane, Micah Richards, and countless others in the world of football have also expressed their grief, as is Tyson Fury of the boxing community. The heavyweight champion shared his sorrow on Instagram, saying: “Rip to the Legend @rickyhatton he tears. There will never be 1 Ricky Hatton. I can't believe that, so young.”
