Jon Rahm is back in action during his tournament at home in Spain after what he considers the “most difficult week” of his career during the Ryder Cup in New York.

Rahm is in Madrid to try to win a fourth record title at the Spanish Open and go beyond Seve Ballesteros as the most successful golfer of the tournament since the creation of the European Tour in 1972.

The 30-year-old helped Europe win the Ryder Cup in the United States two weeks ago, when the noisy public in his country tormented European players from the start.

“This week in New York was mentally the most difficult week of my career, but at the same time, it was the most fun week that I had,” said Rahm before the Spanish Open of this week presented by Madrid, who begins Thursday with live coverage from 1 p.m. Sky Sports Golf.

“What happened there during these three days was something inhospitable. Sometimes I couldn't believe it.”

Rahm makes a sensational shot in the eighth with Black Bethpage to win the hole for Europe

Rahm teamed up with Tyrrell Hatton at Bethpage Black and they were among the Europeans most targeted by the New York public.

Rahm said he had heard everything from American fans and that “things were out of control” during morning sessions because of alcohol consumption.

“You could compare this to football, but you have the noise of 50,000 people and you don't really hear what each person says,” said Rahm.

“In my case, every step I took, I could hear everything.”

Rahm said that the result could not have been better since Europe won the victory and kept the trophy won two years ago in Rome.

“It will be difficult to surpass this week, perhaps during the Ryder 2031 here in Spain, which will be more special for me than for anyone else,” said Rahm.

Rahm will make his seventh appearance in Madrid, with his victories in 2018, 2019 and 2022. He was a finalist behind his Spanish compatriot Angel Hidalgo during a dam last year.

Back on the most controversial moments of the Ryder Cup 2025 with Bethpage Black

Ballesteros won the last of 50 titles on the European circuit at the Spanish Open in 1995. It will be the first time that the tournament will offer the winner an automatic place at the Masters and the open open year.

“I am very proud of that,” said Sergio Garcia, another local public favorite.

“It somehow shows the quality of the peloton we have this week.”

Rahm and Garcia, winners of the 2002 edition in Spain, are among the actors of LIV on the field. This week also play Patrick Reed, Joaquin Niemann and Shane Lowry this week, who succeeded in the Cup conservation putt for Europe during the Ryder Cup.

It is also the 50th anniversary of the victory of the great Golfer Arnold Palmer in 1975.
