Alan Shearer says he wants Alexander Isak “released now” if the Newcastle striker shows no desire to reintegrate into the team.

Isak must be back in training this week after jumping the club tour in the Far East. Newcastle said it was due to a minor injury to the thigh, but he later emerged that the Swedish international explored a distance from St James' Park.

The 25 -year -old spent last week working in San Sebastián – on the training field of the former Real Sociedad club – in another sign of his dissatisfaction with life in Tyneside.

Isak has three years on his contract, but he is supposed to want to move to Liverpool, even if the Premier League champions indicated that they did not provide for a second offer after seeing an initial offer of around 110 million pounds sterling rejected last week.

Isak Saga darkened in Newcastle summer

It is far from ideal for Newcastle and the boss Eddie Howe Less than a fortnight before the start of the season and the former club striker Shearer wants clarity anyway.

He said to the rest of the football podcast: “I'm not at all angry with him. I understand how football works, I know what's going on in and around the game.

“I probably understand his mentality. Do I like it? Do I understand it? Probably two different things.

“But I know what football is and I know how it works, and obviously Liverpool was in him or his agent.

“I just thought it could have happened next year and if it is really impossible for Eddie to return it and that he says no, and it seems to be the case, I want him to get out now, you get your big money for him, whoever is ready to pay for this and you get other people, hope it in advance, then you go.

“As I said, no individual is bigger than any football club, and if he doesn't want to be there, very well, get what you can and get it out and say thank you very much for the memories, you are going.”

It was a disastrous window for Newcastle – Shearer

Newcastle identified the RB Leipzig Benjamin Sesko striker as their favorite replacement should leave Isak, although Manchester United is also interested.

If Sesko opted for Old Trafford instead, it would continue a theme of players rejecting Newcastle this summer. Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Bryan Mbeumo and James Trafford have all refused the Magpies and Shearer concedes that the last few weeks have not gone as planned.

“So far, it was a disastrous window for Newcastle,” added Shearer.

“It was supposed to be the moment when we started with significant investments and, hopefully, go to another level. It was anything but to be honest.

“They missed several targets of first choice, so so far, it was really poor. Their transfer window has been in disorder.”
