Four of these matches will be played at home and four away, with the opponents determined by four seeds distributed by ranking.
Teams will face two opponents from each of these pots – one against a team from each pot at home and one away. The results determine the overall ranking of a league.
The top eight teams in the ranking automatically qualify for the round of 16. Teams finishing ninth through 24th will compete in a two-legged knockout play-off to reach the round of 16.
Teams finishing 25th or lower are out of Europe for the season.
