Crystal Palace stunned by Larnaca, Aberdeen beaten
Crystal Palace's historic evening did not go as planned.
Crystal Palace suffered a shock defeat in their first home match in a proper European competition as they were beaten 1-0 at Selhurst Park by Cypriot side Larnaca.
The FA Cup winners have made an excellent start to the Premier League and are among the favorites to win Europe's third division competition.
Having defeated Dynamo Kyiv in their first league matchthe Eagles were expected to sweep Larnaca.
Despite dominating the match, Palace were punished for a loose pass from Jaydee Canvot, which allowed Riad Bajic to score what proved to be the winner in the 51st minute.
“That's European football. You have to learn from it,” Palace manager Oliver Glasner told TNT Sports.
“Small mistakes are punished and on the other side we had enough chances to win the game. It's not just the story of today but of many games. The effort was there, we were creating situations against a deep block. We had four or five big chances to score and we didn't do it and we make a mistake and you can lose a game like this.
“It's part of the game. Nobody blames [Jaydee Canvot] him, it happens. The finish was excellent. If you don't score, you can't win. We lost a point today. It's disappointing, it's frustrating and it hurts, but on the other hand, we keep going. We have enough games.
“We had enough clear chances and then sometimes you lose. We have to learn from that.”

Julius Lindberg and Isak Brundberg turned the match in favor of Hacken after Alvaro Garcia opened the score for Rayo.
Rayo had a stoppage-time penalty request turned down after a VAR check, but a second request was granted and, seven minutes into added time, Andrei Ratiu fired into the bottom left corner.
Rayo's unused substitute Pep Chavarria was sent off before the referee ended the match after 105 minutes.

Aberdeen in the background
Scottish side Aberdeen sit at the foot of the 36-team table after being beaten 6-0 by AEK Athens.
It was Aberdeen's heaviest European defeat and manager Jimmy Thelin admitted the margin could have been bigger.
“We know it’s not acceptable…it was 6-0, but it could be more,” Thelin said. “There is so much to improve on, but we also played two games before in the league and it was two clean sheets and a steady performance.
“Tonight Athens exposed us and that's what we need to learn from. So sometimes you just have to put your hand up, they win, totally deserved.”
In Croatia, the clash between Rijeka and Sparta Prague was abandoned after 12 minutes, due to heavy rain making the pitch unplayable.
