Fabio Wardley finalizes terms of a WBO heavyweight title defense against Daniel Dubois on May 9.

WBO champion Wardley will make the first defense of his belt against Dubois in a major all-British fight at a venue in the United Kingdom, which has not yet been confirmed.

Wardley was crowned the new WBO titleholder after Oleksandr Usyk relinquished the belt instead of defending his mandatory title against the undefeated Briton.

The Ipswich boxer won the WBO interim belt in October after a superb 11th.round stop by Joseph Parker at the O2.

Dubois reunited with coach Don Charles as he attempts to regain a world title following his knockout loss to Usyk in their rematch at Wembley in July.

The Londoner had previously defended the IBF belt with a spectacular knockout victory over Anthony Joshua last September.

Sky Sports News journalist Andy Scott praises Fabio Wardley following the announcement that the Briton has been crowned the new WBO champion after Oleksandr Usyk relinquished the title.

Speaking last week, Wardley's manager Mike Ofo said Aerial sports: “Fabio wanted to fight Oleksandr Usyk after beating Joseph Parker but he chose to pursue Deontay Wilder instead. Now that that fight fell through, Fabio wants a unification fight with Usyk for all the belts.

“We were pursuing a fight with Chisora or Wilder on April 4, but they took refuge in each other's arms and as you can see in the press, they behave like a loved-up couple. But boxing is a tough sport so I wish them all the best for the future.

“As for Daniel Dubois, this is clearly a fight that Fabio would be all for. There's nothing like an all-British showdown for the heavyweight world title!”

When asked about a Wardley vs. Dubois fight, promoter Frank Warren said Aerial sports: “We talk with Fabio about various things and also with Daniel.

“Whatever happens, they both have to fight, they both want to fight and they will fight.

“So they will probably fight in late April early May.”
