2.15 Newbury – The Quebecer aims for his first pursuit victory

THE Pursuit of OLBG novices “In pursuit of excellence” brought Quebecois at Berkshire, who is looking for his first victory.

The Paul Nicholls-trained gelding has previously contested the Champion Bumper and was subsequently placed in Grade 2 company as a novice hurdler when he finished second to Billy Joyce at Sandown in December 2024 before managing a creditable third in the Ais Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham last year on Trial Day. He tasted success over the smaller obstacles at Ayr during the Scottish National Day in April before switching to fencing.

The Ditcheat Charge initially enjoyed mixed fortunes at various distances before being narrowed to two miles and four furlongs at Cheltenham. He was very unlucky to be beaten by the nose in this start last month and back on the long two-mile journey he is expected to enter the winners' enclosure.

Also in the mix here is Personal ambitionwho will be looking to bounce back after recently finishing last in five races in the Grade 2 Howden Noel Novices' Chase. Old cowboy fell on the final day after suffering a nosebleed, but could be a contender if brought back to peak condition by the combination of Gary and Josh Moore. Nicky Martin Choice of lead completes the quartet.

3.20 Newbury – Bobby's Nelson headlines field of six

Our third race on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon card is the Boyle Sports, home of the advance payment 'National Hunt' Novices' Hurdlewho sees Bobby Nelson title a field of six.

He ran away at Ffos Las on the final day, beating the talented Off The Jury while pulling away over the line. This little-raced gelding, trained by Philip Hobbs and Johnson White, has all the assets to continue to improve and a victory here could see Spring Festivals become the main targets.

Swindon Village has a profile every bit as progressive as that of Bobby's Nelson, although he has only one victory over hurdles – won at Leicester in November. However, he has some substance in his form considering he finished third at Ffos Las in late October, with the winner that day going to Challow. Klimt Madrik, who Swindon Village beat that day, finished second in the Challow, so that form line reads very well.

The race of the evening from Wolverhampton is arguably the Read Meg Nicholls Blog at betmgm.co.uk Handicap, in which Filly Foden is chasing a hat-trick, taking on two previous winners Gray Horizon and Justmyluck.

Gray horizon is in fine form, winning four of his last seven starts since switching from Richard Fahey to Scott Dixon. He has won here twice in three attempts and this evening is aiming for his first success on the track over 1,400 meters.

Just my luck is still little raced, having only seen the track five times. He bought his first career win last time out on the handicap debut for Linda Perratt and the handicapper wasn't joking as he weighed 6lb for it.

Notable mentions should go to Blue Baker And Fortificationwho are also good horses and are not out of the equation.
